The Process and Result of the Mingling of God and Man:

  1. 1. Union of Life:
    • Explanation: The blending of olive oil (God) with four spices (man) typifies the union of God and man in life
    • Scripture: John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing."
  2. 2. Blending of Natures:
    • Explanation: The blending of different components typifies God imparting His divine nature into man's nature
    • Scripture: 2 Pet 1:4 "For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust."
  3. 3. Incorporation of Persons:
    • Explanation: The complete blending of oil and spices into one entity typifies the incorporation of God and man in person
    • Scripture: Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me"
  4. 4. Complete Mingling of the Triune God with the Tripartite Man:
    • Explanation: Ultimately, the Triune God (Father, Son, Spirit) is completely mingled with the tripartite man (spirit, soul, body)
    • Scripture: 1 Thess 5:23 "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Conclusion: The compound anointing oil profoundly typifies the wonderful process of the mingling of God and man. The olive oil represents the Triune God, while the four spices represent various aspects of man. This mingling is not merely a simple mixing, but a union of life, a blending of natures, and an incorporation of persons. Through this process, God dispenses Himself into man, making man the same as Him in life and nature (but not in the Godhead). This is the ultimate goal of God's eternal economy: to mingle Himself completely with the man He created and redeemed, becoming one organic entity, which is the Body of Christ, ultimately consummating in the New Jerusalem.
