A fickle heart vs a strong heart
Ezekiel 36:26-27 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances faithfully."
1 Thessalonians 3:13 "So that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints."
|
Aspect |
Fickle Heart |
Steadfast Heart |
|---|---|---|
|
Meaning |
A heart easily changing, unstable in emotions, relationships, and spiritual matters. |
A heart made firm and stable in God, not easily shaken, rooted in faith and love. |
|
Reason |
By nature, man’s heart is deceitful and restless (Jer. 17:9). Our natural life is like fragile glass—unchangeably fragile. |
Only God can give us a new heart and put His Spirit within us to make us steadfast (Ezek. 36:26–27). |
|
Difference |
Unreliable, easily swayed by environment, emotions, or circumstances. |
Reliable, trustworthy, grounded in God’s Spirit and Word. |
|
Example |
A brother may treat his wife kindly in the morning but become irritated during breakfast. Similarly, believers may be fervent today but cold tomorrow. |
David: “My heart is steadfast, O God” (Ps. 57:7). Paul desired the Thessalonians’ hearts to be established in holiness (1 Thes. 3:13). |
|
Application |
Do not trust in your own heart, which is changeable. Recognize its weakness. |
Allow the Lord to strengthen, establish, and build your heart on solid ground. Pray for God’s mercy and grace daily. |

Detailed Scriptures |
Ezekiel 36:26-27 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances faithfully." 1 Thessalonians 3:13 "So that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints." Psalm 57:7 "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody." James 1:6-8 "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." |
Conclusion:
- * Core Point: The human heart by nature is fickle, deceptive, and unreliable (Jer. 17:9). No matter how determined or emotional we are, our natural heart cannot be made steadfast by itself.
- * Application: Only God can give us a new heart and establish us in Christ by His Spirit (Ezek. 36:26–27). We must daily turn to Him, pray for His strengthening, and allow His Word and Spirit to build us. Then, our hearts will be steadfast in faith, love, and holiness.
- * Summary: Do not rely on your own unstable heart—rely on God’s steadfastness.
